BALADE IN SYNCRO IN NEW CALEDONIA Four-week trip made during the austral winter in July 2010. My son who is a hospital doctor in Poindimié in the northeast of the island had imported the Syncro from metropolitan France. We traveled the "rock" a little in all directions essentially tracks which are numerous and in good condition. Outside Noumea, the island is sparsely populated, we were very well received either by Caldoches (white descendants of convicts and immigrants) who are mainly cattle farmers in the west as by Kanak (of Melanesian origin) that make subsistence culture, work for nickel and live in community tribes in the north. The richness of the island is mostly nickel mines which "crunched" the mountains. Our travels have totaled 3000km and brave Syncro has been the subject of no failure.
